Transport in London and Getting Around

If you’ve ever been to London before you’ll know we have one or two transport problems here, like plenty of other major cities.

But riding on the Tube – or Underground – is fun and interesting.

It’s one of those places in life where you get to see a real cross-section of people: rich, poor, young, old…any and every race, nationality…you name it, you see them on the Tube.

And the buses, for that matter.

We’ll be going into much more detail about the specifics of getting around in London on other pages within this site – things like…

  • Buying tickets
  • The cheapest way to get around
  • Driving in London and
  • Using the world-famous black taxis

But for now, look forward to the London Olympic Park being the best-connected in history with 10 rail lines and 3 stations serving it, and I’ll bring you lots and lots of information and help for using any or all of the following:

  • The Tube
  • London’s airports
  • Trains
  • Docklands Light Railway (DLR)
  • Trams
  • Buses (those world-famous red ones you’ve seen in the movies!)
  • Coaches (not so famous)
  • River services (what a way to travel…along “Old Father Thames”)
  • London’s roads
  • Taxis and minicabs

London 2012 Useful Information Guide Tip: buy a pre-paid Oyster card for access to the whole of London’s public transport system, including trams, buses, Tubes, trains and Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Click here to read more information about Visitor Oysters.
