The Tamarind is an award-winning Indian restaurant established in the heart of Mayfair 15 years ago. It offers a range of exquisite, innovative dishes and fine wines served by an eager team of helpful and courteous waiting staff.
The head chef is renowned for his originality and his specialties include seekh kebabs cooked in the tandoor and the decadent lobster Karaikudi – chunks of lobster tail tossed with cumin, red onion, curry leaves, tomatoes and ground spices.
Its pleasant, uncomplicated ambience makes Tamarind an excellent place for a romantic meal (particularly if you want to impress!) and its terrific location (close to Piccadilly, The Ritz and Hyde Park) means that there is plenty to do and explore either before or after you've eaten.
When I visited Tamarind with my wife recently, we had a thoroughly pleasant time and rounded things off with a walk around the little-known and historic Shepherd Market area, which is very close by and sits among the back streets of bustling Piccadilly.
The Tamarind isn’t cheap but it does offer Indian cuisine at its finest, with brilliant vegetarian and halal options.
Tamarind remains one of the most popular and highly-regarded Indian restaurants in London.
