Visiting Windsor
Why consider Visiting Windsor or Windsor Attractions?
Visiting Windsor during your visit to England will enable you to combine 1,000 years of history with fine dining and some superb shopping.
And there aren’t many places around where you can do that!
Top of the list of Windsor attractions has to be the castle – one of the three official residences of The Queen and home to the Sovereign for over 900 years.
It’s the largest inhabited castle in the world and also the oldest in continuous occupation. The striking, magnificent towers and battlements of the castle create one of the world’s most spectacular views, which can be admired by visitors of any age.
You can visit the castle from 09:45 every day, including Sunday – which is also the time that most of the coach tours arrive from London. Many independent visitors also make the castle their first port of call on their visit to Windsor.
Changing of the guard happens between 11:00 and 11:30, also adding to the morning rush. Many of the coach tours will commonly stay until late morning, departing after the changing of the guard.
However, be warned – the castle may close for state visits, so we advise you keep checking this website for news of this during 2012 or, better still, sign up to our free newsletter and get the info delivered straight to your inbox.
Windsor Castle is one of the UK’s Top 20 visitor attractions…and Windsor has another in that list – LegoLand, which is a great day out, especially for families.
Other Windsor attractions include Eton College, the Savill Garden and Royal Windsor Racecourse, all of which make this Berkshire town – which is just 20 miles from central London – a great place to visit during your trip to England in 2012.
