10 Reasons Why London, England Will Be a Great 2012 Olympics Location

London, England, is home to the world's most expensive stadium, and has in the past, been the venue for two successful Summer Olympics, both in 1908 and 1948. London is among the few cities of the world where sports is not just a recreation but is also a way of life, and it comes as no surprise that the 2012 Olympics has chosen London as its host. Here are ten good reasons as to why they were right in doing so.
1. The Olympics will be conducted in a specially built 500 acre Olympic Park with a capacity to seat over 180,000 spectators. The Olympic park consists of state of the art stadiums and facilities, thus encouraging a healthy sport environment in its midst.
2. The Olympic Park will include six different venues like the Aquatics Centre, the Velodrome, and Basketball arena and so on. Allowing for easy movement, the Olympic Park has a network of footbridges and walkways designed such that visitors will be able to access all these venues easily.
3. Located at a close distance to the Olympic Park, is the Olympic Village which will provide accommodation to thousands of athletes and visitors.
4. Concerted efforts are being made to make sure that games will be held
in a safe and secure environment. A number of security agencies have been roped in to provide both spectators and players with a congenial sporting environment.
5. Transportation has also been given due importance to make sure that all spectators can access the games venue in the shortest possible time either by public transport, on foot or by cycling. Along with new railway and cycle lanes that will be added to London's infrastructure, public transport has been designed such that it makes accessibility easy for the disabled and the elderly.
6. Encouraging the use of public transport, over 7.7 million tickets that will be sold for the London 2012 Olympic Games will all allow for free use of public transport in London on the day of the event. Not only will this prove to be a green solution for accessing the venue but it will also make it convenient for non-Londoners.
7. Accommodation during the games will be easily available in London with over 100,000 hotel rooms to choose from. Visitors can choose from luxurious to cost-friendly options and arrangements for student accommodation with almost 30,000 beds have also been made.
8. Another aspect of the event that has been given attention to is the broadcasting of the games for people all over the world. For this, the International Broadcast Centre/Main Press Centre will be built, allowing confirmed broadcasters like BBC, NBC, Sportv and many more to carry out their job efficiently.
9. The 2012 event aims at being a green event. It will cut down on carbon emissions, use recyclable material for reducing waste and efficiently use water.
10. London is the ideal destination for the 2012 Olympics as the city has a rich sports culture. With its love for sports and as a destination for many such events in the past, it can be said that London is not just geared up for the next big event but is also catalytic to its success.
